How to Submit a Concern or Suggestion to the NYCDOT

The easiest way to submit a suggestion, question, or concern to the New York City Department of Transportation is through the “Contact the Commissioner” Form: https://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/contact/contact-form.shtml

Before you contact the NYCDOT we suggest that you are prepared with the following information:

Where is the item of concern? Write down an address, intersection, or street segment ahead of time.

What is the issue or problem? The DOT’s form has a long drop-down list to choose from. For example, are you concerned about traffic light/signal, traffic sign, a sidewalk, a crosswalk, lane markings, a pedestrian signal, or a suggestions about a safety improvement?

Describe the situation in a few brief sentences: What is the issue and what do you want  done about it (the remedy, repair, or improvement)?  Type this up in advance if possible.
